The Little Beauty Habits That Changed Everything
As a makeup artist, entrepreneur, wife, and mom, I’ve learned that beauty isn’t about having the most products; it’s about having the right habits.
Over the years, I’ve tested countless products, trends, and techniques, but the things that made the biggest difference weren’t complicated routines or expensive treatments. They were the small habits I consistently committed to. I have realized that some of the simplest changes in my routine have had the biggest impact on my skin, hair, and confidence. Today, I’m sharing the beauty habits that truly changed everything for me, and the products that help me stay consistent with them.
1. I Stopped Skipping SPF
For years, I focused on serums, treatments, and expensive skincare products, but I wasn’t nearly as consistent with sunscreen as I should have been. Now, SPF is non-negotiable.
Whether I’m running errands, filming content, meeting clients, or spending time with my family, sunscreen is always part of my routine. It’s one of those habits that doesn’t seem exciting at the moment, but years from now, your skin will thank you. One of my favorite options is Supergoop! Glowscreen. Not only does it protect my skin, but it also gives me a beautiful glow that works perfectly under makeup. On days when I want something lightweight and calming, I reach for EltaMD UV Clear. This is one beauty habit that truly pays off over time.
2. I Started Prioritizing Hair Health Instead of Just Styling
For a long time, my focus was always on how my hair looked after I styled it. I wanted volume. I wanted shine. I wanted perfect curls. Eventually, I realized healthy hair is what creates those results in the first place.
Now, I focus on protecting and maintaining my hair rather than constantly trying to fix it after the damage has already been done. The Dyson Airwrap has completely changed the way I style my hair. It allows me to create volume and smoothness while using less extreme heat than traditional styling tools, making it easier to maintain healthier-looking hair over time. I also love using Living Proof Root Lift to help with volume and Mielle Rosemary and Mint Oil to keep my scalp healthy. Healthy hair always looks more expensive than damaged hair, and this shift in mindset has made a huge difference.
3. I Never Sleep in My Makeup
I don’t care how tired I am.
I don’t care how late I get home.
I never sleep in my makeup.
As a makeup artist, this is probably one of the most important beauty habits I’ve maintained over the years. Removing makeup thoroughly at the end of the day helps prevent buildup, clogged pores, and dull-looking skin. One product I consistently reach for is the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm. It melts away makeup effortlessly and turns a simple step into something that feels a little more luxurious. I follow it with the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, and together they make makeup removal simple, effective, and easy to stick with every night. My skin always thanks me the next morning.
4. I Treat My Brows Like a Priority
If only I had five minutes to get ready, my brows would still make the cut. Brows frame your face in a way that few other beauty products can. Even on no-makeup days, groomed brows instantly make me feel more polished and put together. One product that’s become a staple in my routine is the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Brow Lamination. I love how it gives my brows that lifted, fluffy look while keeping them in place all day. It’s quick and easy to use, and it makes a noticeable difference with minimal effort. It’s such a small step, but it’s one of those beauty habits that instantly helps me feel more confident and put together.
5. I Focus on Skin Prep Before Makeup
One of the biggest makeup mistakes I see is people focusing entirely on makeup products while ignoring the skin underneath. Beautiful makeup starts with hydrated skin. No foundation, no concealer, or bronzer can perform at its best if your skin isn’t properly prepped beforehand. One product that never leaves my routine is Embryo Lisse Lait-Creme Concentre. It hydrates, smooths, and creates the perfect canvas for makeup applications. The better your skin prep, the better your makeup looks. Every single time.
6. I Simplified My Everyday Makeup Routine
As someone who loves makeup, it may sound surprising, but simplifying my routine has made getting ready so much easier. For a long time, I felt like every day needed a full glam look. Now, I’ve learned that having a handful of go-to products and a routine I can rely on saves time and helps me feel confident no matter how busy the day gets.
If there’s one product that has earned a permanent spot in that routine, it’s Tarte Shape Tape Blur Concealer Stick. Whether I’m heading to a meeting, filming content, or running errands, it’s the product I reach for when I want to look refreshed and put together in minutes. The best routines aren’t always the longest; they’re the ones that make you feel like your best self without overcomplicating things.
7. I Made Weekly Self-Care Non-Negotiable
This may be the beauty habit that changed everything the most. Not because of a specific product, but because of the mindset behind it. Life gets busy. Between work, family, content creation, clients, and everyday responsibilities, it’s easy to put yourself last. I’ve learned that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it is necessary.
One of the ways I do that is by setting aside time each week for a little reset. Sometimes it’s as simple as putting my phone away, making a cup of tea, and taking a few minutes to slow down. A product that’s become part of that ritual is the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. Whenever my skin is feeling tired, dull, or in need of extra hydration, it’s the product I reach for. More importantly, it reminds me to carve out time for myself, even during the busiest weeks.
Sometimes the smallest acts of self-care end up making the biggest difference; not just in how you look, but in how you feel.
The Real Secret
If there is one thing I’ve learned after years in the beauty industry, it’s this: The products matter. But consistency matters more. The women who seem effortlessly put together aren't necessarily using more products. They’re committed to small habits that they repeat day after day. Beauty isn’t perfection. It’s about showing up for yourself consistently. It’s putting on SPF when you’d rather skip it. Remove your makeup when you’re exhausted. Take care of your hair before the damage happens. Spending a few extra minutes prepping your skin and making time for yourself, even during the busiest seasons of your life.
Those little habits may not seem life-changing in the moment, but over time, they add up to something powerful. And looking back, those are the habits that truly changed everything for me.
